Acornhoek Boys Arrested for Robbing Taxi Driver at Gunpoint

By The Youth Voice Reporter

Acornhoek – Two teenage boys from Acornhoek have been arrested following a frightening armed robbery in which a local taxi driver was held at gunpoint and robbed outside his home.

The incident took place at Happy Dam in Acornhoek recently. According to police reports, the 43-year-old taxi driver was returning home and had parked his vehicle outside his yard when the attack happened.

As he got out of the taxi, four armed males allegedly approached him, pointed a firearm at him and threatened his life. The suspects reportedly disarmed the driver of his licensed pistol and robbed him of an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the scene.

A case of armed robbery was opened, and police investigations led to the arrest of two suspects, both aged 16. Due to their age, the police are working closely with probation officers as the suspects are minors.

The two boys now face serious charges, including armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm. Their appearance at the Acornhoek court will be facilitated in collaboration with probation officers in line with procedures involving underage suspects.

Police have confirmed that investigations are continuing, as two more suspects involved in the robbery are still at large.

Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, said police will not rest until all those involved are brought to book.

“We will work diligently to ensure that the remaining suspects are swiftly brought to justice. We urge members of the community to report any information about crime to the police,” said Mkhwanazi.
