Nelspruit – A 30-year-old woman has been sentenced to an effective 57 years’ imprisonment after being convicted on multiple serious charges, including murder, kidnapping and cybercrime, by the Evander Magistrate’s Court in Mpumalanga.Nkosi’s sentencing follows an extensive police investigation into the disappearance of Sfiso Lucky Khubeka, who was reported missing on 21 April 2024.

Investigations later uncovered the existence of a criminal syndicate involved in kidnapping, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, intimidation, cybercrime and robbery-related offences.During court proceedings, the State presented what was described as a watertight case, leading to Nkosi pleading guilty to all eight charges against her. These included two counts of kidnapping, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, contravention of the Cybercrimes Act, cyber fraud, robbery with aggravating circumstances, intimidation, and the murder of Khubeka.

The court heard that Khubeka’s body was later discovered floating in the Roodebank River, with his hands bound with cable ties and his legs tied with a rope attached to a large rock.Nkosi was also convicted for the kidnapping and assault of another victim, whose identity cannot be disclosed for safety reasons. Her co-accused, Mandla Skosana, Sibusiso Skosana and Seun Mpenzi, pleaded not guilty and are expected to continue facing trial in the same court.

Major General Mkhwanazi commended the police detectives, prosecution team and the judiciary for their collective efforts, which culminated in the successful conviction and sentencing.“We are pleased with the successful outcome of this case and the efforts of our members. We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that those who break the law are brought to book,” said Mkhwanazi.
