LAC Outreach Visit and Subsequent Local AIDS Council Meeting for Bushbuckridge

LAC Outreach Visit to Nyamazane High School, Ward 38

As part of the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality’s (BLM) Outreach Programme undertaken in line with the MPAC resolution, the Executive Mayor, Cllr Matlanatso Lydia Moroane, together with MMC for Social Development Cllr Sylvia Mathebula and the Head of Secretariat, conducted an LAC Outreach Visit to Nyamazane High School in Ward 38.

The school engagement included the distribution of sanitary packs to learners as part of the municipality’s ongoing commitment to learner dignity, school attendance, and overall youth well‑being. The Executive Mayor engaged closely with learners, including the Grade 12 class, encouraging them to stay focused on their academic goals.

Community support was notable and appreciated. Former Councillors Ms. Girly Mathebula and Ms. Busi Myanga attended as members of the community and parents, actively supporting the outreach activities. Their involvement, along with that of parents and other local volunteers, strengthened the community‑centred approach of the programme.

Nyamazane High School is a highly commendable institution offering Sepedi and Xitsonga as Home Languages, reflecting the rich linguistic and cultural diversity of the Bushbuckridge community.

Local AIDS Council (LAC) Meeting for Bushbuckridge

Following the school outreach, the Executive Mayor and her entourage proceeded to the Local AIDS Council meeting for Bushbuckridge as part of MPAC resolution, held in Thulamahashe. The meeting brought together councillors, health practitioners, and key partner organisations, including:

  • Department of Health (DOH)
  • Child and Family Services (CFS)
  • GRIP (Greater Rape Intervention Programme)
  • HOS (Home‑Based Care / Health Outreach Services)
  • Community members and volunteers

The purpose of the meeting was to strengthen the municipality’s collaborative and multisectoral strategy to combat HIV/AIDS and TB. Discussions focused on intensified awareness campaigns, prevention programmes, treatment adherence, and the strengthening of partnerships across government and civil society. All stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to coordinated interventions that prioritise public health and community resilience.

Alignment With Government Service Delivery Priorities

The outreach and LAC engagements reflect the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality’s dedication to key service‑delivery priorities outlined in the ANC Local Government Manifesto, specifically the commitment to building healthy and safe communities. The day’s activities demonstrate practical implementation of this priority by promoting learner well‑being, advancing public‑health education, and strengthening partnerships aimed at combating HIV/AIDS and TB.
