Hazyview- A two-year-old child miraculously survived a brutal shooting incident that claimed the lives of two men and left a woman critically injured along the Nyongane Main Road in Hazyview.The shooting occurred on Tuesday afternoon, 30 December 2025, at approximately 17:30, when the child was travelling in a vehicle with three adults towards Nyongane.
According to police, the vehicle was ambushed by an unknown number of suspects who were allegedly hiding in nearby bushes. The suspects opened fire on the vehicle as it travelled along the Nyongane Main Road.Despite being under attack, the driver managed to continue driving for about 200 metres before colliding with another vehicle from behind and coming to a stop.Police reports further revealed that the suspects, who were on foot, then approached the vehicle and shot the occupants at close range, killing the driver and his male passenger instantly.
The woman, believed to be the driver’s wife, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.The two-year-old child, who was also inside the vehicle during the attack, escaped unharmed.A 72-hour activation plan has since been implemented, with all relevant law enforcement role players mobilised to track down the suspects.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, condemned the attack, describing it as senseless and brutal.“We cannot live in a society where people open fire and kill others in broad daylight, while also endangering the life of an innocent minor,” said Major General Mkhwanazi.
