Five Killed in Tragic Bus Crash on R33 Near eMkhondo

Five people have lost their lives in a tragic bus accident on the R33 road between eMkhondo and Amsterdam today. The crash occurred when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn on the wet and slippery road.
According to authorities, six passengers sustained serious injuries, while 20 others escaped with minor injuries. The driver, who is among the injured, was transported to a nearby hospital in Mkhondo along with other victims by various ambulance services that responded to the scene.
Although the exact cause of the crash is still under investigation, officials suspect that the rainy weather and wet road conditions may have played a significant role.Initial reports claiming the bus was carrying more than 80 passengers have since been corrected. The bus had 65 passengers when it departed Johannesburg, but several disembarked at various stops along the route.
At the time of the accident, only 31 occupants, including the driver, were on board.Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Mr. Jackie Macie, has urged motorists to exercise caution, especially during adverse weather conditions.“Every driver must prioritize their own safety and that of other road users. Let us save lives by being highly alert and obeying the rules.
Long-distance drivers must rest sufficiently along the way,” said Macie.The MEC extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured passengers a speedy recovery.
