Emalahleni – In a major boost for township and rural entrepreneurship, NAFCOC Mpumalanga and Barcelos officially signed a partnership agreement today in Emalahleni, paving the way for the rollout of fully equipped Barcelos franchise containers across the province.

The event drew Barcelos executives, NAFCOC leaders and members from various regions of Mpumalanga, all gathering to witness what both parties described as a “transformational step” toward accessible business ownership.Barcelos representatives used the platform to unpack their franchise model, explaining how the organisation supports entrepreneurs with mentorship, training and ongoing business guidance.

The fast-food brand emphasised that its model is designed to ensure that new franchisees are not left to struggle alone, but are equipped with the tools and systems needed for long-term success.NAFCOC Mpumalanga President, Gay Mokoena welcomed the partnership, noting its potential to create jobs and stimulate local economies. He highlighted that each Barcelos container franchise can employ at least eight people, which could have a significant impact in communities where unemployment remains high.“Mokoena encouraged NAFCOC members to seize this opportunity and help broaden economic participation.

The more members who take part in this initiative, the more jobs we can create for the people of Mpumalanga,” he said. The Mpumalanga Economic Growth Agency (MEGA) also pledged its support. Speaking on behalf of the agency, Dr Carol Nkambule said MEGA is open to engaging with interested entrepreneurs to explore possible funding partnerships.

She applauded the initiative as one that aligns strongly with the province’s mandate to uplift small businesses and drive inclusive growth. The signing ceremony ended with renewed optimism as both Barcelos and NAFCOC reaffirmed their commitment to empowering local entrepreneurs and building sustainable township and rural economies through the new franchise container model.
