Calcutta Man Arrested for Murder and Attempted Murder in Oakley Trust

Calcutta- A 45-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a brutal attack that left one man dead and a woman seriously injured in Oakley Trust, under the Calcutta policing area.The incident occurred in the early hours of 22 November 2025, when police were called to an RDP house after reports of a murder and an attempted murder.
When officers arrived, they found the body of a man lying in a pool of blood inside the house. He had sustained severe injuries to his upper body and was declared dead at the scene.In another room, officers discovered a woman believed to be the suspect’s female friend lying on a bed with serious upper-body injuries. Although she was alive, she was unable to speak. Emergency personnel transported her to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care.
A crowbar, believed to have been used during the attack, was seized from the room where the injured woman was found.Police launched an immediate investigation, which led to the arrest of the suspect, Alfred Dumisani Shabalala (45).
He appeared briefly before the Mkhuhlu Magistrate’s Court yesterday facing charges of murder and attempted murder. His case has been postponed to 27 November 2025, and he will remain in custody.Police say the circumstances surrounding the attack are still under investigation.
