


TWO ACCUSED SENTENCED TO SIX MONTHS IMPRISONMENT FOR DEALING IN DAGGA

Two accused Mahlubi Dlamini (26) South African citizen and Nelisiwe Nokwazi Lukhele (31) from Kingdom of Eswatini, were sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, wholly suspended for five years, on condition that they are not convicted of a similar offence during that period.They were further sentenced to pay a fine of R15 000 or serve six months’ imprisonment. Both were also declared unfit to possess firearms.
The sentence was handed down by the Mayflower Periodical Court on 22 October 2025.According to information, on 21 October 2025, members were conducting patrol duties when they spotted a Ford Ranger with Gauteng registration numbers near the Waverley/Dumberton borderline. The vehicle was stopped and searched, resulting in the discovery of 12 dagga rolls wrapped in brown sellotape and three sacks contained in black plastic refuse bags. Two female suspects were found in the vehicle and immediately arrested for dealing in dagga.The confiscated dagga weighed 50.28 kilograms, with an estimated street value of R211 176.00.
The suspects appeared before the Mayflower Periodical Court on 22 October 2025, where they were found guilty and sentenced on the same day.Preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle belonged to a person from Eswatini. Further investigations are underway to determine whether it was used in the commission of other crimes.The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi, welcomed the sentence and reiterated that the police will continue to clamp down on those involved in drug trafficking. “Our roads cannot be used to traffic dagga. Those who continue to do so will find themselves behind bars,”said Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi
