Bushbuckridge Local Municipality’s Executive Mayor, Matlanatso Lydia Moroane, has extended a heartfelt invitation to the private sector, which includes local businesses, to contribute towards the development and empowerment of the youth in our community. The mayor emphasizes that Bushbuckridge is a youth-dominant municipality, and her administration is dedicated to equipping young people with the skills and knowledge necessary for employability and economic contribution within the municipality. In a recent statement to our reporter, Mayor Moroane announced an exciting initiative: the municipality is offering 50 fully funded bursaries and learnership opportunities specifically for youth residing within the Bushbuckridge area.

The purpose of these bursaries is to address significant skills gaps in various industries, ensuring that our youth receive qualifications that enhance their job prospects. “We want our youth to have qualifications,” said the mayor proudly, highlighting her commitment to the future of our young people. The municipality is not stopping at just providing qualifications and skills; they are also taking proactive steps to assist youth in securing employment. The mayor stated that they are working closely with young individuals to explore job openings and facilitate their integration into the workforce, ultimately helping them contribute to the economic growth of the municipality.

In addition to the bursaries, the municipality has launched a new website dedicated to registering local Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). This platform aims to recognize and support local businesses, ensuring that the municipality takes actionable steps to bolster the growth of these small enterprises as part of a broader strategy to promote local economic development. Moreover, the municipality invites young individuals who have recently matriculated to visit the municipal offices to apply for free driver’s licenses.

They are offering code 10 and code 14 licenses at no cost, specifically targeted at those who have recently completed their matriculation.Mayor Moroane emphasized that every program they are implementing will showcase their hard work and dedication to youth development. She encourages private business owners operating within the municipality to actively participate in these initiatives, recognizing the vital role that collaboration with the private sector plays in empowering the youth and fostering sustainable development in the region.
