At just 23 years old, Takalani Fulufhelo Fakude from Manyeleti in Bushbuckridge is preparing to take his journey from local pageantry stages to the global spotlight.Fakude, who currently holds the titles of Mr Bushbuckridge Ambassador 2025 and Mr Eco South Africa 2025, will be departing on 3 June to represent South Africa at the Mr Eco International pageant in the Philippines.

For Fakude, the opportunity marks a major milestone in a journey that began with his first pageant, Mr Bushbuckridge, which he credits for shaping his confidence, purpose, and passion for leadership.“It was never just about appearance,” he says. “It became about purpose, confidence, and using my voice to inspire others.”Beyond pageantry, Fakude is also building an academic foundation. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce in Financial Accounting at the University of the Western Cape, where he is developing skills in business, finance, and leadership.

He describes his journey as one of growth, from local competitions to becoming a voice for young people who aspire to enter the modelling and pageant industry. Over time, he says, modelling has become more than a platform for visibility, it has become a space for advocacy and personal development. Now, as he prepares to represent South Africa on an international stage, Fakude says the responsibility goes far beyond personal achievement.“I feel proud, grateful, and deeply responsible to carry my country’s flag. It is not just about me, it is about showcasing the beauty, diversity, and strength of South Africa,” he says.

He adds that his participation is also aimed at inspiring young people, especially from rural communities like Bushbuckridge, to believe in their dreams regardless of their background. As he heads to the Philippines, Fakude carries with him not only national colours, but also the hopes of a young man determined to turn passion into purpose and purpose into impact.
