The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has confirmed that it has processed all 2026 funding applications ahead of the start of the academic year. Students can now check their funding status via the NSFAS Portal.
First-Time Entering Students Applications approved for funding: 609,403
Applications rejected: 49,538
Incomplete applications (awaiting documents): 218,043
Withdrawn/cancelled applications: 16,863
Total applications: 893,847NSFAS said first-time entrants who meet financial eligibility may still need confirmation of acceptance from their institution, often only available after matric results are released.“Applications marked as incomplete require additional documents, such as parental consent forms and completed NSFAS Declaration Forms,” NSFAS explained.
Students have 30 days from notification to submit missing documents. Applications not completed within this window will not be processed.Continuing Students Eligible for funding: 416,688

For continuing students, these figures only include university students.
