Millions of South African families who rely on the Child Support Grant will receive an additional R20 per month following the 2026 Budget Speech tabled in Parliament today.
Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana announced that the Child Support Grant and Grant-in-Aid will increase by R20 to R580.
The increase, while modest, comes as many households continue to battle rising food prices and high unemployment levels. Government says the adjustments are aligned with the rate of inflation to protect beneficiaries’ purchasing power.
Other Grant Adjustments
In addition to the Child Support Grant increase, several other social grants will see upward adjustments:
- Old Age Grant increases by R80 to R2 400
- Disability Grant increases by R80 to R2 400
- Care Dependency Grant increases by R80 to R2 400
- War Veterans Grant rises by R80 to R2 420
- Foster Care Grant will increase to R1 290 in April and R1 300 in October
Godongwana confirmed that for the 2026/27 financial year, government has allocated R292.8 billion toward social grants.
Social assistance remains one of the largest components of public spending, providing critical income support to millions of vulnerable South Africans, including pensioners, persons with disabilities and caregivers.
