




As part of public-private partnership (PPP) initiatives, Innovation:
Africa, in collaboration with the Betway Cares Foundation and BLM, has successfully launched a solar-powered borehole water project at Iglington Erick Section in Ward 33. This project features a water distribution system that includes approximately 5,635 meters of piping and 21 strategically placed standpipes to serve the local community.During the implementation of the project, which was carried out with the support and guidance of Embileni Engineering, employment was created for at least ten community members.
These individuals received training and were awarded certificates during the handover ceremony, highlighting the project’s focus on community empowerment.The Executive Mayor of the municipality urged community members to protect the newly installed infrastructure from vandalism and theft. She also noted that the municipality is actively addressing issues related to unauthorized connections affecting the pipeline from Inyaka Water Treatment Works (WTW), which has historically supplied water to Iglington.The Mnisi Traditional Authority expressed gratitude to all stakeholders involved in the project, emphasizing the importance of community stewardship in maintaining the new infrastructure.
The Betway Cares Foundation recognized the cooperation between the municipality, Innovation:Africa, and the local community, expressing hope that this collaboration marks the beginning of future projects together. Beneficiaries of the project shared their appreciation for all entities involved, stating that they have faced significant challenges due to water shortages caused by unauthorized connections on the supply pipeline. This project aims to alleviate those difficulties and improve access to water in the area.
