Let’s not waste water in the name of welcoming Spring!Spring is upon us.
On Monday, 01 September it is Spring Day and we welcome the colourful month. As we welcome this wonderful month, it is important that we act and behave in a responsible manner. Let us remember that South Africa is a water scarce country and ensure that we welcome Spring in a responsible manner and not waste water. Let us also teach our children that water is a scarce resource therefore it is crucial that they do not play with water, as water has no substitute. Let us ensure that we, together with our kids do not waste water under the guise of welcoming Spring. Let us destroy the negative and irresponsible mentality of playing with water to welcome spring on Spring Day and this wastes and leads to the loss of the precious resource.
Our behaviours and actions will ensure water security and the security of supply for the current and future generations only if we are careful and responsible. It is therefore critical that we teach and model our kids in a responsible manner. Our kids replicate what we do and how we behave, so it is important that we show the good and responsible things and tell them the importance of conserving and using water wisely and sparingly so they learn the good things whilst young to grow up responsible people. If we look at our water resources, we can see that our dams, rivers, and streams are gradually dropping. The drop in water levels in our water resources means we now have less water so it is important that we make good use of the available resources. Let us be responsible water users and use the available water in a wise and sparing manner to ensure that we do not run out of water and ensure that everyone has access to the source of life as water is life.Water conservation is key to ensuring sustainable water supply to the current and future generations. Climate change is also upon us and leads to very hot temperatures which leads to high evaporation and water losses in our water resources.
Climate change basically leads to les water, so let us be responsible citizens and play our role in mitigating the negative impact of climate change in our communities.South Africa is one of the thirty driest countries which means every drop counts, therefore we must ensure that we use water wisely and sparingly at all times. Let us therefore prevent water wastage and losses by fixing leaking pipes and reporting burst pipe timeously so that we do not unnecessarily lose even a single drop of precious water.
