Successful Integrated Safety and Service Delivery Operation held at

Giant Stadium, Tshwane

The Gauteng Provincial Government, in partnership with the City of

Tshwane and key law enforcement and service delivery agencies, today

held a large-scale Integrated Safety and Service Delivery Operation at

Giant Stadium, Soshanguve.

The initiative brings together provincial departments, municipal units,

SAPS, Metro Police, emergency services, and community structures to

ensure safer communities and accelerated service delivery.

The operation at Giant Stadium is the fifth one in a series of targeted

deployments planned for Gauteng municipalities. Communities were

mobilised and encouraged to participate actively, report issues, and

collaborate with government teams on the ground.

On-site access to key government services such as Home Affairs

documentation, social service registration, and municipal account

assistance were on offer.

This integrated approach forms part of Premier Panyaza Lesufi’s

directive to strengthen intergovernmental collaboration in addressing

service delivery backlogs and community safety challenges across

Gauteng.

Speaking at the operation, Premier Panyaza Lesufi, said:

“This operation demonstrates our commitment to combining safety

enforcement with direct service delivery interventions. We are taking

government to the people — addressing safety concerns, restoring

infrastructure, and providing essential services in one coordinated effort.”

Law enforcement agencies comprising of the Gauteng Traffic Police

(GTP), Gauteng Traffic Wardens (GTWs), South African Police Service

(SAPS), district and local municipalities arrested more than 1000

suspects for various crimes including murder, theft, hijacking, rape,

assault with the intention of GBH, armed robbery and business robbery

amongst others.

Suspects were arrested during the crime prevention and visible policing

operations in the City of Tshwane, between 06H00 and 18h00 on

Thursday, 14 August 2025.

Notably, 60 suspects were arrested for contravention of the immigration

act, while 44 vehicles were impounded, and over 1 600 people and 694

vehicles were searched during roadblocks.

In further law enforcement operations, the Gauteng Department of

Economic Development deployed its Liquor Inspectors from the Gauteng

Liquor Board to conduct compliance inspections at various outlets in

around Sections F, G and H of Soshanguve.

At Spar Tops Maluleke, in Section H, the licence was found to be valid,

but in a process of transfer through consultants. Still in Section H, Peters

Place, is operating with a shebeen permit since 2013.

At Kananas Bottle Store in Section G, the inspectors noted a compliance

violation in contravention of the Gauteng Liquor Act, section 79 (1) on

Consumption of Liquor – there was evidence of onsite consumption.

They consequently issued a compliance notice requiring the facility to

rectify in 7 days.

In Section F, Cookie’s Tavern (On Consumption), The Chillout Zone

Restaurant as well as Molewa’s Butchery Liquor Store were also found

compliant. Several other liquor traders were visited but found closed for

the day

To address the persistent housing challenges in the City of Tshwane,

Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi, MEC for Human Settlements,

Tasneem Motara and Tshwane MMC for Housing & Human Settlements,

Cllr Aaron Maluleke handed over 43 title deeds to beneficiaries in

Soshanguve Ext.

“The title deed handover forms part of the Provincial government’s

commitment to restoring the dignity of residents through security of

tenure”, said Premier Lesufi.

As part of ongoing waste removal, grass cutting, and environmental

clean-ups, Region 1 will continue undergoing a comprehensive cleaning

initiative targeting key public areas.

Premier Lesufi added that, “a workforce of 800 Expanded Public Works

Programme (EPWP) participants will be deployed to conduct litter picking

and illegal dumping removal, focusing on hotspots such as Marry-Me,

Giant Stadium, and the Marry Me–Kgeila Borukgu route.”

Inspection and repair of critical infrastructure, including streetlights, road

signage, and water connections continues beyond the service delivery

operations.

In an unrelated matter linked to law enforcement, Premier Lesufi has

condemned the deadly violence at Maponya Mall in Soweto and called

for calm.
