ACORNHOEK CITY FC POISED TO EXERT DOMINANCE IN THE LOCAL LEAGUE

Acornhoek, South Africa, 5 March 2026 — Acornhoek City Football Club is continuing its pursuit of establishing itself as a dominant force in soccer within Bushbuckridge and surrounding areas in Mpumalanga. The Acornhoek-based soccer team currently competes in the newly-formed Central Acornhoek Football Association (CAFA) Men’s Promotional League. Majita Ya Style, as Acornhoek City is also known, currently occupies the fifth spot on the league’s log standings. The league comprises eight teams vying for a playoff spot to compete in the SAFA Men’s Regional League.

They have already completed the first seven matches. And Acornhoek City, a young soccer outfit, owned and coached by Sipho Dzimba, a prominent football administrator and entrepreneur, has been making a significant impact in local football circles thus far. Despite a slow start to the league, Acornhoek City has not lost a game since their 2-0 victory against Kulani Arrows FC in December. They went on to win 6-1 against Acornhoek Arsenal FC in January and played a 1-1 draw against Green Rangers FC last month. Dzimba stated that his team is still new to the local football system, with relatively young and inexperienced players.

“We established Acornhoek City Football Club from scratch, primarily with the Under-11, Under-13, Under-15 boys, and for most of them, it is their first experience playing organized and competitive football. However, since March last year, most of these young players have been together, learning and improving with each game. In August last year, we have also arranged for the team to visit Polokwane, where they got a first hand experience to interacted with professional players, coaches and management of Magesi Football Club and AmaZulu Football Club during a Premier Soccer League match at Seshego Stadium. Further programmes of that nature are planned, including visits to meet Mamelodi Sundowns and University of Pretoria (AmaTuks) players and technical teams in Gauteng,” said Dzimba.

Dzimba emphasized that although they strive to perform well in the CAFA Men’s Promotional League, his main goal is not to win the league but to strengthen the team and enhance the players’ focus and unity. “The league comprises several strong teams, including Acornhoek Ajax FC, Matsikitsane FC, Green Rangers FC, and Moholoholo Academy FC. Teams like Kulani Arrows FC and Mahashe FC are always also difficult with exciting talents. As a result, our prospects of winning the league are limited, but we remain committed. Our priority is to build a team that will continue to have a positive influence in the community. The team’s objective is to inspire young individuals to stay off the streets and focus on something positive through soccer,” Dzimba said.

This month, their CAFA Men’s Promotional League schedule includes a match against Matsikitsane FC on Saturday, 7 March. This match promises to be tough for the Citizens of Acornhoek, as they face a team that has thus far collected 16 points in seven matches. In their previous encounter, Acornhoek City suffered a narrow 1-0 loss to Matsikitsane FC after conceding a penalty in the final minutes of the game.

They will then host Green Rangers FC on Sunday, 15 March at their home base in Acornhoek Police Station Sport Field. Green Rangers FC, a formidable soccer team, remains undefeated in the league and has produced notable players, including Vuyo Letlapa, a Premier Soccer League player for Sekhukhune United and Bafana Bafana.

On Saturday, March 21, Acornhoek City will face off against Moholoholo Academy FC, a team that secured a 3-2 victory against them in the first half of the season. Their March schedule will conclude on Sunday, March 29, with a derby match against Acornhoek Arsenal FC in the CAFA Men’s Promotional League, promising an exciting encounter with all the football flares. Thus far, Acornhoek City have accumulated eight points in seven matches. Despite a slow start, the team is poised to maintain their unbeaten streak since December and continue grinding out points.
