A new political party, the Service Delivery Party, has officially been formed in the Victor Khanye Local Municipality. The party was launched yesterday (10/01/2026) in Delmas, where Thabo Motau was announced as its leader. The event drew a large crowd of supporters and community members.
The party aims to address ongoing challenges in local governance, particularly service delivery, transparency, and accountability. Its slogan, “Service Delivery Party: a party committed to action, accountability and real change for the community”, reflects its focus on practical improvements that impact residents’ daily lives.
The formation of the Service Delivery Party comes amid growing political activity ahead of the 2026 local government elections. According to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), over 500 political parties are now registered nationwide, highlighting an increasingly competitive landscape for voters at the municipal level.
Motau emphasised the importance of fair governance, saying that communities often face challenges when municipal contracts are awarded without proper oversight, or when procurement costs are inflated, affecting residents. The party intends to engage citizens and communities to ensure service delivery and municipal accountability are at the forefront of local government.
The Service Delivery Party officially enters the local political scene, giving residents a new option in the elections and signalling its intention to participate actively in shaping governance in Victor Khanye and beyond.
