From Kasi Dreamer to Crowd Controller: The Rise of MC T-Gom, MC Wama 2K

By: Tumelo Lebambo

Born and raised at Marite in Bushbuckridge, Gracious Mathebula known on stage as T-Gom the MC or MC Wama K is steadily making her mark in the local entertainment scene as one of the emerging female voices behind the mic.

Her journey began at Shatleng Primary School, continued through Malavutela, and later Lamulelani High School, where she completed matric in 2015. Like many young people, her path after school was not straightforward. In 2016, she enrolled at Ehlanzeni TVET College, but due to financial challenges, she was forced to drop out and return home.

In 2017, she entered a period of job hunting, determined to find stability. Her perseverance paid off in 2021 when she was employed at Checkers as a merchandiser. In 2022, she was promoted to till packer and later trained as a cashier building discipline and experience while still carrying bigger dreams.

But behind the retail counter was a creative spirit waiting for her moment.

In 2023, she stepped into the entertainment space as an MC, driven by a desire to bring energy and connection to local events in her community. Living in Game at the time, she became inspired by the power of MCs to turn ordinary gatherings into vibrant experiences.

“That’s when I decided to take notes, learn the craft, and introduce it in my own way,” she explains.

Her stage name, “T-Gom,” meaning The Gracious One (Mathebula), reflects her identity and presence behind the mic. As her confidence and following grew, audiences affectionately named her “MC Wama 2K.”

Today, she is steadily building her brand, performing at venues such as Chilla Nathi Lounge, where her presence continues to energize crowds and grow her reputation.

“I wanted to bring something new to my kasi and also earn extra income. Now I want to go further and make this a real career,” she says.

Her journey represents a growing wave of young women in entertainment who are turning passion into purpose, proving that even from humble beginnings, a strong voice can command any stage.
